All of our Prenatal Therapies are safe and beneficial during any stage of your pregnancy. However if you are experiencing any of the following conditions, it is best to get advice from your OB before taking part in any of our Therapies.
Severe morning sickness
Moderate to Severe varicose veins
High Blood Pressure
High Risk Pregnancy (current or previous)
Mild, periodic Morning Sickness is generally not a problem. Just make your appointment during a time of day when these symptoms subside.
Studies have shown that face down positioning with the use of body cushions, pregnancy pillows or tables with cut outs (with or with out a sling) are not safe solutions for providing pregnancy massage. The ONLY safe method for providing pregnancy massage is side lying positioning. All pregnancy massage and body therapies at SPAepidauros are performed while the client is in a face up "semi-reclining" position and side-lying with support pillows.

MASSAGE DURING PREGNANCY
Pregnancy creates significant physiological, structural, psychological, relational, and spiritual changes in a woman’s life.
Massage therapy can be a particularly effective form of adjunctive healthcare during this time.
Pregnancy Massage is a special massage designed to aid relaxation, benefit circulation, relieve the pain of over used muscles, and soothe nerves.
Special considerations are made concerning positioning and length of massage..
During the first trimester, pregnancy massage is performed with client in standard face up/face down positions.
In the second trimester the client is positioned in a reclining face up position and/or side lying.
Third trimester massage is done only in side lying position for comfort and safety.
Postpartum massage may be done side lying or in face up/face down positions.
- Physicians recommend massage for its therapeutic effects during pregnancy.
- See your physician first if you have any concerns.
